Calexico and going against the recommended settings
August 11, 2011Killing some time so figure I should maybe put something on here again……Shooting video on DSLRs can be rad and also a bit frustrating at times since what looks good on little screens and monitors isn’t necessarily that great when viewed larger. A guy named Tyler writes a blog about all things video and wrote what appears to be a really good article about what shutter and other settings to use and not use for best video. I learned a bit there, I also know that when shooting at places like the Urban Lounge for clips that will just wind up on the interweb for about 72 people to watch all this info can pretty much be tossed out the window like a banana peel.
It’s been a bit since Calexico has been around Utah, in the past they have played at the Twilight Series, Red Butte and Kingsbury Hall so was a bit surprised to see the Urban listing, was rad to see them in a smaller venue even though the still don’t play Convict Pool much anymore (this video is kinda rad)- they did bust out a little Alone again Or, it’s been covered a bounch but their version is up there almost as good as the Damned‘s- if you didn’t know it’s an old Love song.
Oh yeah, it was shot with a Canon 60D, Canon 16-35 2.8L lens, with a Sennheiser MKE 400 and the ghetto man’s handheld rig- a mini ball head/quick release combo with a superclamp for a bit of counter balance. It’s never good to go with too high of an iso but since this isn’t meant for much more than this webclip went with 640iso and a 30 shutter even though was shooting 1080/24 but it made the light stop flickering. TechhShmeck whatever…
if you’re still wasting time watch this….
